Centenary of the birth of Prof. Wilhelmi

On September 20, 2021, one hundred years will pass from the date of birth of Prof. Zdzisław Wilhelmi, the successor of Andrzej Soltan’s work on the development of nuclear physics in Warsaw, long-term head of the Department of Nuclear Physics at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw. Professor Wilhelmi left us on December 27, 2013.

Prof. Rohoziński passed away

On September 11, 2021, prof. dr hab. Stanisław Grzegorz Rohoziński passed away, the founding member of the Nuclear Physics Section of the PPS, retired professor at the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw, vice-dean in 1982-84, long-term director of the Institute of Theoretical Physics. Professor Rohoziński was an outstanding scientist who initiated in Warsaw research in the field of the theory of nuclear collective movements. He gained international recognition for his fundamental works on complete solutions to quantum equations of motion for quadrupole shapes and description of collective excitations in odd nuclei. He was an outstanding lecturer, master, teacher; he inspirits many generations of physicists.

Funeral ceremonies was on September 23, 2021 at 11:00 in the church of St. Charles Borromeo on the Old Powązki.

Professor Rohoziński – in memoriam

Dr Daniel Piętak

On the 2nd of September, 2021, the Warsaw University of Technology held a successful public defence of the Daniel Piętak’s dissertation. The work was entitled “Evaluation method based on a genetic algorithm for results of Coulomb excitation experiments” was started and partially prepared based on the results obtained at HIL UW. Prof. Piotr Bilski from the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology, Warsaw University of Technology was the supervisor of the thesis and Prof. Krzysztof Rusek from HIL was one of reviewers.

Congratulation!
